How to report a water leak in a Beyoğlu apartment
A damp ceiling, a drip under the sink and water around a washing machine need different investigations. A useful first message describes what you can see, when it happens and where someone can get access.
1. Make a short record of the problem
Take a wide photo that shows the location in the room, then a closer photo of the wet patch or visible drip. If water is dripping, a short video can show how often it happens. Only take photos from somewhere safe and accessible; do not open walls or dismantle fittings to get a better picture.
- When did you first notice it?
- Is it happening now, intermittently, or only after a particular fixture is used?
- Is the wet area growing?
- Which room and surface are affected?
- Has anyone already inspected or worked on it?
Keep the original photos with their dates. “A wet patch appeared above the bathroom door yesterday” is more useful than deciding that a particular neighbour’s pipe must be broken.
2. Identify who can provide access
In your first enquiry, say whether the apartment is in Cihangir, Galata, Çukurcuma or another part of Beyoğlu. Add the floor and lift information, and explain if access is through a shared entrance. Send the exact address privately when the appointment is arranged.
If the visible water is on a ceiling or shared wall, tell the landlord or building contact what you have observed. Ask who can arrange access to any other area the plumber may need to inspect. A visit to your flat alone may not be enough to identify a source elsewhere in the building.
Keep investigation, permission to carry out work and responsibility for payment as separate questions. A photo cannot establish who is responsible for a repair.
3. Say clearly if the water is still flowing
Do not put an active, uncontrolled leak into an ordinary appointment queue. Our concierge replies within a day and is not an emergency response service. Contact your building contact and an urgent local repair service if immediate help is needed. Stay away from water near electrical fittings and do not touch wet electrical equipment.
For a contained or intermittent problem, include the current condition in your message. A mark that has dried and a ceiling that is actively dripping should not be described in the same way. General leak guidance from Thames Water explains that leaks can be hidden and can damage property. The source of a particular stain still needs to be investigated.
4. Agree the first visit’s scope
Ask whether the initial price is for inspection, a specific repair, or both. Check any call-out charge and whether materials are included. If opening a wall, removing a cabinet or returning with parts becomes necessary, ask for the additional work and cost to be explained before it starts.
Also ask what is left for a different trade afterwards. Fixing a pipe may leave plaster, paint or cabinetry that still needs attention. Tell the provider if you need help coordinating that work, rather than assuming it is part of the plumbing price.
A clear first message
Hi, I am in Cihangir, Beyoğlu, on the second floor. There is a drip under the kitchen sink when the tap runs. I first noticed it this morning. I have attached a wide photo and a short video. I can provide access tomorrow after 14:00. Is there an inspection charge, and what would the first visit cover?
For non-emergency enquiries, our Beyoğlu leak and tap repair page explains how to arrange help in English. We pass the details to a provider and confirm the proposed next step with you.
